After shooting a street style look in an alley lined with colourful murals, we took it from Downtown Detroit to the Detroit Skyline to feature two things in my wardrobe – a poncho by the boutique, Francesca’s Collection, and sequins by Juicy Couture.
(Niki was practically jumping for joy to be shooting on the rooftop. She’s a city girl like me.)
I don’t think that I’ve been in a boutique before visiting Francesca’s Collection’s location in Birmingham, MI. I don’t think the word, “boutique,” even crossed my mind that often before this.
The girls here were super friendly, patient, and attentive. I took my sweet *ss time looking at everything. Once I was ready to tackle the dressing room, one of the girls had prepared something like 3 outfits to go with my choices and it really helped me visualize how I could wear it and include it in my wardrobe.
By now you might have guessed that I’ve got a thing for grey and black this season. I really feel confident in neutral colours, comfortable, tailored fits, and sleek, sophisticated lines. So it’s no surprise I fell in love with this poncho so quickly. These leggings have also been on repeat! They’re so comfy!
One of the items in this look was a leap-of-faith purchase. I’ve never been comfortable with sequins. I actually kind of gag a little when I walk by prom dress stores with heavily sequinned dresses in fluorescent colours. But this clutch by Juicy Couture spoke to me – especially because it was speaking to me from the closet of Chriselle Lim, was a good deal, and for a good cause.
(Chriselle x Red Thread was a collaboration to raise awareness and funding for the ongoing relief efforts of a major earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015.)
Niki tells me I started warming up to the camera and I think that’s why we were able to produce some of my favourite shots for this look.
What are your opinions on ponchos? Your go-to colours for this season? Do you love boutiques?
Also, entertain me, which are of these pictures is your favourite? 😉
