When I started my blog, I knew I wanted to feature both of the beautiful cities around me – the one I live in and the one across the border. Downtown Detroit has a big city feel with a bit of edge and has a ton of wall art and graffiti. It didn’t take long for me to decide where to shoot my first street style look – featuring one of my current favourite brands, Banana Republic.
I packed my huge bags and, while looking like a super tourist, headed out to meet my photographer, Niki, at 10am in the morning and was relieved to find her waiting for me at The Belt by The Z Lot with Starbucks in hand. Lifesaver!
It was cold AF for what I was wearing but I just had to shoot this outfit in this hidden gem of a place. Something about grey and leather being a must while around colourful wall art. And I love this Banana Republic top too much.
I picked this top up when I was trying to choose between a bazillion things on a trip to the store. I love the slightly open back. It gives the top a little personality. I also love the texturized look that the fabric gives it too. Makes it a little less boring.
*Since I couldn’t find the link to this top, I linked similar Banana Republic tops at the bottom.
Other items from Banana Republic that I currently like are this camel blazer, this scarf, this scarf, and this necklace. They are currently doing up to 40% off dresses, shirts and more in Canada and the US until December 7th.
These faux leather ponte leggings are also on pointe 😉 Super comfortable (they pull on – which I prefer over the zipper) and they look more like pants than a typical pair of leggings due to the leather detail down the side. I got these from Francesca’s when I was looking for an all-leather pair of leggings.

The item in this outfit that I’ve received the most compliments on is this bag from Daily Look. I actually got this bag in a monthly subscription box (no longer subscribed) and kept it. I love gold hardware so I really dig it on this bag and I love how the two-tone element of it gives the bag more interest.
*In the shopping widget below, I added a bag that also has metal trim – if that’s what you like! The actual bag is listed in the above hyperlink and below in the text links.
I was pretty pumped going into this shoot because it was my first time working with a professional photographer for my blog. When I’m in Windsor, my sister helps to shoot me so it was nice to switch it up.
I liked how Niki directed me into poses and helped me laugh to achieve the stellar photos you see here. You’ll be seeing more of her work in my upcoming blogs!
In the meantime, check out her website at nikimariephoto.com. She is a swoon-worthy wedding photographer.
She’s also on Instagram as @nikimariephoto 🙂
