To some, brunch is a judgement-free excuse to indulge in a drink or two during the day.
At least, that’s what I thought it was before I had my first mimosa 🙁
WHAT IS BRUNCH?
- An excuse to sleep in.
- A reason to spend time with the girls on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
- A guilt-free decision between breakfast and lunch.
- An excuse to drink – if you want a midday buzz.
What brunch actually is, though, is a social tradition that involves food #IMO.
Eating out is many things. It’s an expense. It’s good food. It’s bad food. But it’s also a social activity 🙂
The Bird & The Bread – one of my favourite brunch spots in Michigan – knows this.
By the front windows, they have a lovely area fit for brunch. Bright with studded contemporary booths for catching up with some girlfriends or intimate tables for lunch with someone special.
Further back, there’s a dimly lit area with larger tables that fit more of a dinner date vibe. There’s even a large private area plus an event space if you’re one for grandiose dinner parties.
And finally, what restaurant can resist the bar? Great for grabbing a pint with the guys. 👿
But no matter how socially equipped your restaurant is, you’re nothing without good food.
The pork belly sliders from here are delicious. I love the combination of the meat and the pickle. This appetizer comes with three sliders so get them to share or keep them all to yourself 😉
Another favourite from here is their chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know that vanilla ice cream is my favourite!
If you’re from Detroit, The Bird & The Bread is about a 30 min drive. They do take reservations and they do accept large parties. Cards are also taken. You can park on the street or in nearby garages.
For those serious about going, I’d suggest making a day out of it. The restaurant is located in downtown Birmingham, MI, which has a great shopping strip that you can wander around or window shop 🙂
