Less than 3 weeks to go until Paris. It’ll be my first time here and it’ll also be the first time that I take vacation clothing seriously. Maybe it’s because I blog now but I’ve been obsessed with shopping smart 🙂
I hate the mindset where you buy stuff to wear on vacation or weddings (I almost bought two dresses I didn’t love) and then don’t have a place for those clothes when you come back to your everyday life. Let’s not.
So, as I’m looking for things to wear to Paris, I’m also thinking about whether or not it suits my wardrobe long-term and in my everyday life. Continue reading to see what criteria I’ve been considering.
Both J. Crew and Banana Republic are on sale right now. Use BRSAVE for the US and BRCSAVE for Canada. For J. Crew, use code EXTRAEXTRA for 30% off sale styles and 25% summer-ready picks.
There is a colour base I tend to stick to. It includes the following colours: grey, camel, white, navy, and black. If I stick to these colours when I shop, I know that my clothes should match easily.
I also know that I prefer to layer. I like layering because it adds interesting elements to my outfit. So I look for items that can be easily worn with other things – in terms of colour scheme, material etc.
Finally, there are items I believe are necessary for my closet. In the case of spring and summer, this would be a pair of black and nude sandals. Another example would be a pair of black flats – which is a staple I wear year round. If I’m missing or need to upgrade a staple, I make it a priority.
For spring and summer, I’m obsessed with little white dresses. (I don’t have one. Well, I have a black and white one.) I’d like a casual daytime one and one for evening – a day-to-night works too. I like this tie back, this sheath, this tie front, this midi (under $100), and this silk mini (on sale).
I’ve also been looking for versatile tops. I like this silk cami, this silk cami, this denim peplum, this striped linen cotton sweater, this striped henley, this houndstooth dress shirt, and this belted shirtdress.
If I get good enough pictures, I’ll update you guys on what I actually pack for Paris 🙂 Or leave it a surprise…
