Easy summer style is the first thing I think of when it comes to these luxurious open toe slides. I imagine a woman with effortless waves (perhaps a day old), wearing a comfortable white-button down, a lazy half-smile, lounging in a chaise by an open doorway with a breeze and a hint of sophistication.
Essentially, it makes me think of my style at its best and its truest: a polished nonchalance 🙂
My Personal Style
Sophisticated. Relaxed. Feminine + Masculine. Strong. Timeless.
I want to show you a look that I created with my first pair of investment shoes. Originally, I was only going to style them as part of a collaboration with Orleans + Winder, a boutique located in Detroit. But I ended up loving these open toe slides so much that I bought them the SAME DAY I pulled them. I hope you enjoy!
The White Shirt
If you only own one white buttoned shirt like I do, you can definitely achieve this air of polished nonchalance – even if it’s a stuffy button-up. At work, I’d button up another button. But, because this look is more relaxed and centred around the open toe slides, I let another button go and wore the collar wide open as much as possible. I also rolled up the sleeves for a, “I tackle my chores in this shirt,” vibe.
A relaxed buttoned shirt like this linen one from J. Crew would work wonders. It’s more along the lines of what I was imagining in my opening scenario. Any relaxed version of a fancier top – like this pleat front shirt – or an upscale version of a casual shirt – like this tee – would work too 🙂
Even though jeans are the quintessential casual bottom, I didn’t get on board with them until a couple months ago. I wore jeans when I was a teen but I fell out of love with them because I just hate the friggin’ zipper and buttons. However, this pair from American Eagle made me fall back in love.
(This pair does not come cuffed. I cuffed them to achieve the vibe I was going for.)
I like that American Eagle offers jeans in short, regular, and tall sizes. Plus their jeans are SUPER stretchy! Mike is in love with his AEO pair too. He’s always bragging about how he can squat in them! 😛
Garment style greatly affects the vibe of your outfit but so does material. This pair is made of 57% cotton, 23% viscose, 12% modal, and 7% elasterell. I’ve also tried jeans from Gap that were comfortable too.
Gap is also another company that offers petite sizes. Hallelujah!
This was a last minute style choice and I was really impressed by my stroke of inspiration. It’s a backpack that I use to carry around my cameras when I travel. I’ve had it for years and, judging by how it has my name sewn into it – thanks Mom 👿 – I’ve probably had it since I was young.
When I looked at this bag, I thought, “I can totally use this,” and it’s this thought that reminds me that we can be really creative with what we already have – even if we have tiny closets like mine! 🙂
I’m really proud. This is the first time I’ve built an outfit around a pair of shoes – open toe slides no less. I think it’s because these are my first pair of investment shoes. They are made of 100% luxurious, buttery leather. I actually had a friend compliment them by saying, “I can tell those are expensive” 😉
To me, what matters is that they get a lot of wear and are durable as well as incredible looking.
I got them at a boutique in Detroit called Orleans + Winder and they are the most comfortable shoes I ever worn on my feet for summer. Emerson Fry is only one of the amazing designers that you can find here. If you are a fan of slow fashion and long-term wardrobe thinking, you will probably love this boutique.
Check out their collection if you are ever in town. Or pop in just to see the showroom space!
