My Thoughts On Moving Out

Thuy from lifestyle blog, Dress Up, Chow Down, shares her thoughts on moving out, student life in Toronto, and budgets.

Technically, I’m only moving out for 10 weeks but it still feels pretty big to me.

(The wall above has my bachelor’s degree and a cute shelf of family photos from when I was young.)

Big Girl Dreams

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be in the next stage of my life at every stage of my life.

When I was in the 5th grade and only allowed to go to one birthday party 👿 , I wanted to be in high school so I could go to more parties. In high school, I upgraded to being able to hang with girls at their houses so I wished I was in college. Then, when I finally got to college, I hung out with boys – in secret, shhh.

Walking across that stage at graduation, I realized I wanted something more. Something fulfilling.

I wanted to become self-sufficient, independent, and eventually move out.

The Real World

Today, two years into my career at the age of 23, I’m going back to school to learn code. Having been laid off at the end of my first job, I felt like it was time to pick up a technical skill.

So I’m moving out – temporarily. Finally.

Honestly, I’d like to think of this as practice for when I actually move out.

I’ve been getting ready for the move by slowly adjusting my sleep schedule (I have to wake up at 6am instead of 9am), practicing code, and budgeting. I’m going to be so poor guys lmao 🙁

My Mom has been an absolute gem. She’s been getting me hampers and other trinkets from the dollar store. And we’ve been talking in great length about groceries and roommates! My parents and my boyfriend have had their share of roommate struggles and I really hope my roommate isn’t Satan from next door 👿

(Please don’t eat my food, future roommate.)

Heads Up, Hot Stuff

Since I’ll be busy with school, you guys should expect to see more diary-like posts in the 10 weeks that I’m gone. Specifically, from September 24th until December 4th. I also hope to do more travel posts because I’m definitely going to explore Toronto and Scarborough! (Scarborough Bluffs is on my list.)

I’m going to try really hard to make my student budget work with my foodie dreams. Let me know if you’re from the Toronto area and have any recommendations! I like delicious + unique + pretty 🙂

What was your moving out experience like? If you haven’t moved out yet, are you looking forward to it?
